The Sakae Japan Internship Program will match you with a Japanese company that will help you improve your skills and achieve your career goals.
In order to be matched with the company that best suits them and provides them with the best internship experience, applicants must submit the online registration form. Once we have received your submission, we will reach out to you through email to begin our support. Please note that the form will ask you to upload a copy of your resume.
To better get to know you, and to more fully understand which kind of internship would suit you best, we will next conduct a casual, initial Skype meeting. These typically last between 30 minutes and an hour. The Skype meeting is also a perfect time to ask any questions you may have about any part of the internship process.
Based on our assessment of your registration materials and Skype interview, we will hand-pick a selection of our affiliate companies to which we will send your information. The information we send to companies includes a copy of your resume and a copy of your initial registration form, along with any other information you may provide to give context to your experience.
If any of the selected companies express interest in you as a potential intern, we will then arrange a more formal Skype interview between you and the company. Depending on the company and your personal language skills, the interview will be either in English, Japanese, or a combination of the two. Regardless, we will speak with you beforehand to give you some tips and tools for use in your interview. Special attention is given to those who are worried about having to interview in Japanese, and we will work to make sure they are not caught off guard.
Depending on the results of the company interview, the company will send you an offer either directly, or through us. At this point, the company has already agreed to fund your travel and housing. Should you choose to accept an offer, we can begin planning your itinerary. Occasionally, for one reason or another, a company may decide to not move forward with the internship process. If this happens, we will continue matching you with other potential opportunities.
Once you’re in Japan, your internship begins! Our office is located right in the heart of Tokyo. If you are ever in need of support, you are more than welcome to stop by or give us a call. We are here for you, even after you begin your internship.
Our support won’t stop there. Many employers in Japan see the internship process as a potential trial period for full-time employment. If your internship company has a position available, they may offer it to you near the end of your program for after graduation. We can also assist you in finding employment in Japan in the case that your company does not have any positions available.
